This is a solution that makes a FileMaker "Insert from URL" RESTful API call to the www.webmasterapi.com web service to generate barcodes over the internet. This solution targets people needing to generate barcodes for websites. What is different about this solution is that it generates a barcode that is a URL link to data that is stored on the API server instead of putting the data inside of the barcode. The advantages of this method is that the data you put in the linked file can be much longer or support more characters than the barcode formats do natively. The disadvantage is that it only works when you can connect to the internet to see the linked text file through a URL. Likewise, because the data is stored remotely, it is not appropriate for sensitive or confidential information.

This barcode service is free with unlimited calls limited only by your internet bandwidth for making the calls. However, they do offer a paid service that allows you to not only link to long text files, but the paid service support things like Rich Text Format.
