Unified Semantic Search in FileMaker

Explore how vector embeddings power semantic search in FileMaker 2024.

bzUnifiedSearch-FM is a demo file for Claris FileMaker 2024 that introduces a powerful technique for performing semantic search across multiple data tables – what we refer to as unified semantic search.

Built on FileMaker’s native semantic search features, this approach allows users to enter a single natural language query and receive relevant results from multiple sources, such as media, project descriptions, and user profiles – without needing to know how the data is structured.

At the core of this technique is a shared Embedding table, which stores precomputed vector embeddings from various tables. The demo uses the Perform Semantic Find script step to compare the user’s query against these embeddings, ranking results by cosine similarity.
