Transcribr is a single-file local transcription server built for FileMaker developers. Drop the binary on a modern Mac, launch it, and call it from FileMaker with Insert from URL. Audio goes in, timestamped JSON comes back, and nothing ever leaves the machine.

Why local? Because transcription touches some of the most sensitive content your clients hand you. Interviews, legal proceedings, HR conversations, medical consultations, board meetings, discovery calls. Sending that audio to a cloud API means paid subscriptions, API keys to rotate, rate limits to plan around, data residency conversations with compliance teams, and a trust cost you never fully recover. Transcribr runs entirely on the local device. No cloud, no API keys, no audio leaves the machine, no network access required. The privacy story is simple enough to explain to a client in one sentence.

Four operating modes cover the realistic ways transcription enters a FileMaker workflow.

Single file mode transcribes one audio file per request. Good for ad-hoc transcription triggered from a button on a record layout.

Batch mode accepts a list of audio files in one call and processes them in sequence. Good for overnight jobs across a container field full of voice notes or a folder of interview recordings.

Watch folder mode monitors a directory on the Mac and transcribes any audio file that lands in it. Good for pipelines that drop recordings from another system and expect transcripts to appear alongside.

Real-time streaming mode transcribes live audio as it arrives, returning partial results while the speaker is still talking. Pairs well with the FileMaker web-viewer for on-screen live captioning inside a solution.

Five Whisper model sizes are included: tiny, base, small, medium, and large. Tiny is fastest with lower accuracy. Large is slower but the most accurate. Pick the right trade-off at solution-design time, or expose the choice to users.

Full API documentation is built into the server itself. Launch Transcribr, point a browser at the local URL, and every endpoint, parameter, and response format is documented on a self-contained page. No external docs to chase, no drift between documentation and implementation.

Transcribr Desktop is free for the month of April 2026 on macOS. Pro Desktop, which adds additional performance with six times the throughput, speaker diarisation, and webhook callbacks, follows later this year. A Linux build and a server edition, with one deployment serving an entire office, are on the roadmap.
